Retirement village plans given thumbs up

Members of Cheshire West & Chester Council’s Strategic Planning Board voted 7 to 1 in favour of plans for a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Tattenhall.

The development which includes a 36 bed nursing home is being brought forwards by Bolesworth Estate and its partners Seddon.

Matthew Morris, the Estate Manager at Bolesworth addressed members of the Board and explained how the development will bring with it nearly £8 million of community and healthcare facilities for the over- 65 age group.

He explained how the Estate had consulted with its neighbours on the plans and had demonstrated that where possible, changes had been made to the plans to accommodate their wishes.

Members of the local opposition group had their say, together with Mr Peter Eyre who spoke in favour of the scheme as did Cllr Mike Jones, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council and who is also the local ward councillor for Tattenhall. He highlighted the benefits of and need for the scheme.

The vote in favour, taken after a detailed debate means that the application will now be referred to the Secretary of State for approval.

Matthew was also able to highlight the fact that over 80 jobs will be created in the local area by the development and to underline the very real need for a scheme such as this based on demographics and keeping couples together in old age.’

The proposal which includes 20 units of affordable accommodation is located on the edge of the village of Tattenhall. Occupancy will be restricted to those over the age of 65 and in need of care.

Bolesworth Estate and Seddon are working with English Villages who have over 20 years of experience in the care sector.
